Our Offer

What makes the DaZ Continuing Education Program special:

In-depth, comprehensive training in ten months

Our further education program is an in-depth and multifaceted program which emphasizes both theoretical and practical principles of teaching and learning German as a Second Language. Encompassing a workload of 900 hours, students who successfully complete the DaZ Bonn further education certificate are awarded 30 ECTS credits. This means that, among other things, graduates of the program will meet the requirements for admission as teachers in the integration courses at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

Moreover, the program prepares students to approach language teaching from a professional perspective regardless of age (children, adolescents and adults) and target group.

Small groups and cooperative learning methods

To ensure that our students are provided with optimal learning environments that are close-knit, and enable them to benefit from each other’s diverse experiences, we limit our groups to 30 participants. Our program recognizes the significant impact diversity in teaching methods, participant orientation, and strong practical applications have on the learning experience. As a result, we incorporate varied and cooperative teaching approaches in all of our lessons.

Direct application to the practice of teaching

Over the course of the program, we will invite qualified speakers with in-depth teaching experience who are able to convey practical knowledge to our students. Our seminars are structured to convey the content through didactic and methodological approaches. In the form of microteaching, we simulate real classes and reflect on the experience together, giving students the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge practically. Finally, the examination exercises are developed based on real-life teaching applications.

Blended learning concept

Our in-person classes are supplemented by eLearning units that prepare, follow up, deepen and expand the content learned in class. This approach enables us to take the diversity of our participants into account, while simultaneously giving our students a great deal of flexibility in terms of time.

Esteemed reputation

The current Daz Bonn Continuing Education Program is a continuation of an advanced training program the Department IKM offered from 2008 to 2019. Based on over 10 years of experience, our program has garnered an excellent reputation for its quality.

Quality management

Both during and at the end of the semester, we ask our students and teachers to evaluate the program. By incorporating their feedback, as well as carefully observing the market and its needs, we continually develop and tailor our program to meet the highest standards. Adapting to a changing professional landscape, we keep our students up to date on current teaching practices in different contexts.

Part-time and family friendly concept

We aim to enable our participants to fit our classes into their busy work or university lives. All of our classes are therefore scheduled in the evenings and on weekends. Furthermore, we make sure not to schedule classes during school holidays.

“I would like to thank you for the wonderful seminars and your loving, compassionate, and humorous way of teaching. It was a pleasure to be a part of the WBS program. Thank you for exuding competence, enthusiasm, and passion.”

“Being able to talk with the other participants in the WBS DaZ Bonn program was a very valuable experience for me. All of the participants come from different professions, speak different languages, and have gained their own unique experiences, which made our conversations very stimulating and varied.”

“After having begun teaching myself, I would like to thank you once again for the excellent training I received over the course of the program. A couple of weeks ago, I started teaching an international support class, and the children are starting to speak. Even those who couldn’t speak a word of German two weeks ago are joining in and laughing (...) For the first time in my life, I feel truly comfortable at school. I am beyond grateful for that.”

“Even someone like myself, who has over 25 years of teaching experience, was able to incorporate the ideas from the methodology/didactics module into his classes. Thank you for the stimulating, varied and content-rich course. I would definitely recommend it to others!”
